Our Overall Aim: To Provide 'Training for Life'
Kay and I set up 'Be Good' Dog Training in order to help local dog owners enjoy their dogs more. For that reason, the classes that we offer are tailor-made around those dogs that attend them and activities that are carried out in any single class are geared towards the dogs present and do not follow a specific course or syllabus. This flexibility allows us to help you to get the best out of your dog without being curtailed to a specific timescale. Every breed and individual dog and owner are different and will learn and progress in different ways and at different paces. Lizzie Humphreys CLASS SCHEDULE 2017

Our Classes
Our Puppy Classes:
|
Although we ask that those enrolling in puppy class sign up for a minimum of 5 sessions, it would be beneficial for your pups training to be ongoing as they emerge out of the 'critical period' for socialisation towards adolescence and those problems that go hand in hand with these developmental stages.
Problems generally begin with crying at night, house-training and puppy mouthing and then later, jumping up, stealing items, not coming when called and pulling on the lead. Although a solid foundation in basic obedience will help you bond with your canine companion, most puppies tend to go through a rebellious stage at around 16 weeks...
You are very welcome to attend for 5 weeks, go away for a month or so and then, assuming there are spaces, return to class. The other reason we ask for a 5 week block is because this class is capped at 8 puppies (though we prefer 6!) and this allows us to concentrate on the puppies in class and help with any specific problems.

Our Novice Class:
|
The dogs who attend our Novice/Intermediate class are over 6 months old and have either; graduated from Puppy, are recent rescues or rehomes, or have had no formal training. This class differs from Puppy in that it is a 'pay on the door' class, this means we have some clients who visit every week and some we may only see when a particular problem or issue arises or if they just fancy doing something with their dog that day!
Common problems include; pulling on the lead, jumping up, over excitement with other dogs, poor recall or excessive vocalisation... the class uses basic obedience (sits/stays/downs) and agility (tunnel/jumps/seesaw) in order to socialise and teach the dogs to listen and work as a team with their handler.
The numbers in this class fluctuate but generally there are between 4-6 dogs of varying breeds, sizes and backgrounds...
We offer 50% off for this class for dogs who are in the first three months of being out of a rescue centre or who are currently in foster care (please bring paperwork to your first class).

The Intermediate Class:
This class is by invitation only and is designed for dogs who are not looking for solutions to specific problems, but who are enjoying attending weekly training sessions and who wish to work to a higher level. The class takes basic obedience and extends it further, for example longer stays, A-Recalls, more complicated heelwork and mini agility courses with some technical elements.
The class is geared towards the enthusiastic pet dog owner rather than those who wish to compete, and generally the same clients attend each class on a weekly basis. The breeds and backgrounds in this class vary greatly from a Cockapoo to an Irish Setter and a ex-racing greyhound to an English Bull Terrier... The youngest member of this class is currently 7 months and attendees are invited based on ability.

The Advanced Class:
This class is our highest level and entry is restricted to those dogs who can work reliably off lead around other off lead dogs. In addition, they must be able to do a 90 second down stay, a 60 second sit stay, group recalls, group off lead heelwork and distance control.
The participants are all long term class members who attend on a weekly basis seeking to improve their dog's ability and socialise with other dog owners. This class only has seven members at this time of a variety of breeds from different backgrounds, including an ex guide dog German Shepherd, a rescued Staffie X and a Cockapoo.
Although working to an advanced level - this class does not have any members who compete and all the dogs are family pets, some of whom originated in our puppy class and others either started later or are rescues.
Agility Socials:
|
Our aim is to promote responsible dog ownership and to ensure people have fun with their canine friends. Agility is a great way to do this and our agility socials allow both dog and handler to work as a team tackling a course that includes large contact equipment whilst socialising with other local dog owners. There is always home-made cake and an opportunity to allow the dogs to meet and greet in a more informal setting.
Places for our agility socials are reserved for current clients and do tend to fill up quickly. Dogs who have regularly attended classes are always more comfortable with the course as they have seen most of the equipment before and are used to concentrating on their handler with distractions. If you're interested, check out the photos on this website or pop along to a class. Agility sessions are held on a Saturday, twice a month throughout the summer, and there are usually two time slots available: 10-12:30 and 2-4:30.
