Lizzie at Be Good Dog Training has been exactly what I required in beginning my training with my pointer. I have had a mix of 1-2-1 sessions as well as going through the puppy and adolescent classes and I highly recommend them all. Lizzie also met for a 1-2-1 at short notice after really struggling with a stubborn dog that had just started to hit adolescence, she quickly identified where I was going wrong and put me instantly on to the right path for success. I'm now moving onto more breed specific training for working dogs having gained an excellent start under Lizzie's instruction. Thank you. 121 Sessions:This service is designed for people who are looking to achieve a level of control of their dog on a one-to-one basis, have particular issue or concern and wish to deal with these on a 121 basis. Lizzie has an honours degree in Applied Animal Behavioural Science and is affiliated to BIPDT - With a wealth of experience with a large number of dogs of different breeds and backgrounds - she is able to help you modify your dog's problem behaviours and create a training program that suits your individual dog and your household's needs. We can cover topics such as: - Learning not to jump up or rush at strangers. -New Baby Training (ideally carried out prior to the baby's arrival) - Not to pull on the lead. - Sit/Down/Stay - Basic control - Leave - Curbing Aggression - resource guarding / reacting to other dogs / people etc. - etc... This is charged at £45 for 45 minutes one-to-one tuition on a pro rata basis. - once the desired behaviours have been learnt, we will usually recommend your dog attends classes in order to strengthen your bond with one another and to solidify any new training in a group setting. For more information text 07545 225 824. - please note that if your dog has a behavioural problem such as aggression, hyperactivity, nuisance barking, house-training issues, destructive behaviour, separation anxiety... you will need a 90 minute slot as we will need to spend longer determining the source of problem before implementing a training program. Highly recommend this class. We took Alan our delinquent greyhound who we were struggling to control around other dogs that weren't greyhound types. Lizzie was great and now people do not recognise Alan as the same dog. From one who wanted to chase and attack anything small and furry Alan is trusted on his walks to run free. He gets on with all breeds and has reasonable good recall. For those who know greyhounds that is great as they usually start with no recall. Alan is friendly around most breeds and has many doozy friends including Cavapoo, Norfolk terrier and Jack Russell. He is a changed dog and a pleasure to take anywhere thanks to Lizzie Important Class Information:'Be Good' Dog Training does not condone the use of harsh handling techniques, physical aggression towards a dog or the use of alpha rolls -
Please ensure that both you and your dog are correctly attired - this includes having poo-sacks and appropriate footwear. Always clear up after your dog - try to ensure they have had a chance to 'toilet' before class. Your dog should be wearing a collar and be on a normal lead (not extending and not a chain) We do not allow dogs to be trained wearing slip or check (choke) collars. Puppies under six months should not be wearing half-checks. Dogs can train using halties/canni-collars/gentle leaders or similar as long as properly fitted. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dogs should be healthy - if your dog is lame, vomiting, has diarrhoea or is coughing, please do not bring them to class. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Feel free to bring training aids or treats to class. Treats should be Small, Soft and Smelly. Cheese/Sausage/Liver Cake works best! -LIVER CAKE RECIPE- (if making liver cake be sure to use BEEF or LAMB liver...) If your dog's behaviour leads you to think that it may cause injury to another dog or person, please speak to Lizzie prior to coming to class to arrange a 121 - if you have concerns please ensure that it is muzzled (basket-type) at all times when coming to class. -CLICK TO SEE/BUY- |
Our Puppy Classes (under six months when they start a course)Our puppy classes are designed to cover all the basics that your puppy needs to learn in order to be a great member of your family - all classes involve some agility - puppies will not be jumping higher than a couple of inches and will not be introduced to large contact equipment until they are at least a year old. In puppy class they will meet; tunnels, half size dog walk and poles.
We are very experienced, happy to answer any questions, and our classes run for an hour to allow the puppies to settle in, learn lots of new things and socialise, both with one another and with spectators. Our classes are ideal for all puppies whether you are looking to do the basics or interested in going on to do competitive agility, showing, obedience, gundog or trials work with your dog. Puppy courses run for either four or six weeks; however, it would be beneficial for your pups training to be ongoing as they emerge out of the 'critical period' for socialisation towards adolescence and those problems that go hand in hand with these developmental stages. Problems generally begin with crying at night, house-training and puppy mouthing and then later, jumping up, stealing items, not coming when called and pulling on the lead. Although a solid foundation in basic obedience will help you bond with your canine companion, most puppies tend to go through a rebellious stage at around 16 weeks... You are very welcome to attend for a course, go away for a month or so and then, assuming there are spaces, return to class or head into once of the adult groups. few key points about our puppy classes
Highly recommend the puppy training classes. Our sprocker spaniel did 10 classes with Lizzie. These classes have given us the tools for us to continue her training at home and to build on the basics which we have learnt in class. Our dog is sociable and happy by nature and meeting other dogs at the classes has been fantastic for her. She now knows the basic commands (sit, down, leave etc) and is also now able to “stay” for approx 45 seconds which we never thought we would see. Her recall is good and we are confident walking with her on and off the lead. Lizzie gives you good advice for training and general dog care and we learnt so much from her. The bonus to these classes is the introduction to agility at the end which our mad spaniel absolutely loved and the fact they are held outside which we think was much more relaxed than in a hall somewhere. Our Adolescent Dog Training Classes (6 months -2 years)The dogs who attend our Adolescent class are over 6 months old and have either; graduated from Puppy, are recent rescues or rehomes, or have had no formal training. This class differs from Puppy in that it is very much moulded around the enrolled dogs, this means we can deal with the dogs on the day and help with any problems that may be appearing. This class runs all year round and you're welcome to dip in and out as your dog ages.
Common problems include; pulling on the lead, jumping up, over excitement with other dogs, poor recall or excessive vocalisation... the class uses basic obedience (sits/stays/downs) and agility (tunnel/jumps/seesaw) in order to socialise and teach the dogs to listen and work as a team with their handler. Our Open Dog Training Classes (6 months+)These classes are designed for dogs who are not looking for solutions to specific problems, but who are enjoy attending weekly training sessions . The class takes basic obedience and extends it further, for example longer stays, A-Recalls, more complicated heelwork and mini agility courses with some technical elements.
The class is geared towards the enthusiastic pet dog owner rather than those who wish to compete, and generally the same clients attend each class on a weekly basis. The breeds and backgrounds in this class vary greatly from a Cockapoo to an Irish Setter and a ex-racing greyhound to an English Bull Terrier... The youngest member of this class is currently 7 months. Training my border collies at Lizzie’s classes is so much fun, certainly the best approach to training very young and older dogs and especially working dogs. The dogs feel safe in class and out comes their excitement, they feel confident and no competitive element and they have a great time. I feel so lucky to have found Be Good Dog Training - I’d tried a few others and this is exactly what I was looking for, an excellent trainer in Lizzie who is always so helpful on all aspects of dog training and ownership and is so good with lively working dogs. I have one pup in puppy obedience beginners and my older pup in improvers agility class, Lizzie started us from scratch at agility and we can now almost do a ‘round’ in the correct order. Hey! It's great fun for you and your dog and you learn so much. Agility - one off sessions, courses and 121s.Our aim is to promote responsible dog ownership and to ensure people have fun with their canine friends. Agility is a great way to do this and we offer a few different ways to do this sport.
Our agility one offs allow both dog and handler to see if its s sport they fancy doing - with no commitment to weekly courses. These run all year round, once a month, on a Saturday. There are usually three time slots available: 9-9:45, 10-10:45 and 11-11:45. In summer we sometimes add a 12-12:45 group if the demand is there.. Weaves and Seesaws do not feature on these dates! Our agility courses encourage the handler and dog to work as a team tackling a course that includes large contact equipment whilst also learning to break it down into 2-3 segments. These courses are 4 weeks long - and are usually early morning or evening - this is due to the summer temperatures... Dogs who have regularly attended agility courses are always more comfortable with the course as they have seen most of the equipment before and are used to concentrating on their handler with distractions. If you're interested, check out the photos on this website or pop along to a class. 121 - we also offer 121 agility sessions - £45 for 45 mins. This can be shared with friend's dogs... it can be scheduled at a convenient time for you and if there is any particular equipment that you would like to work on then just ask! |
